Community Lenders Data Explorer

An interactive, UK-wide map of the community finance sector, the CDFIs and CITR lenders in the Community Finance Toolkit's status matrix (Briefing #1). It works as a two-way search: click an organisation to light up the local authorities it lends across, or enter a postcode to find the community finance organisations nearest to it. Three overlays can be layered over the map, local authority, parliamentary constituency, and deprivation, with the deprivation indices built from each home nation's own source data (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) for complete UK coverage. Each organisation is summarised by its role in three finance schemes: DBT-accredited so that investors can claim Community Investment Tax Relief (CITR); British Business Bank-accredited to issue Growth Guarantee Scheme (GGS) loans; and BBB-backed through Community ENABLE Funding (CEF).

  • CITR accreditation (the list of lenders through which investors can claim Community Investment Tax Relief): HM Revenue & Customs and the Department for Business and Trade.
  • Growth Guarantee Scheme (GGS) and Community ENABLE Funding (CEF) accreditation: British Business Bank.
  • Organisation identity and legal form: Companies House; the FCA registers (including the Mutuals Public Register).
  • Deprivation indices, harmonised across the UK via the mySociety Composite UK Index of Multiple Deprivation, built from each home nation's own source data: England – Indices of Deprivation (MHCLG); Scotland – SIMD (Scottish Government); Wales – WIMD (Welsh Government); Northern Ireland – NIMDM (NISRA).
  • Boundaries for parliamentary constituencies and local authorities: Office for National Statistics.
  • Postcode geocoding: postcodes.io, built on ONS data.
  • Lending coverage and classification: SDWH Limited, compiled from public sources and documented in its coverage reference. Markers show registered-office locations, not lending catchment areas; deprivation is shown at constituency level, whereas the CITR Case 1 test is defined at small-area level.
